WINNESHIEK COUNTY — At around 6:22 p.m. on April 14, 19-year-old Hubbard man was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Iowa Highway 139 south of 313th Avenue that resulted in a rollover and significant damage to a livestock trailer carrying more than 100 pigs, according to crash information. The driver, identified as Cooper Granzow, was traveling southbound on Highway 139 during daylight hours in rainy, wet conditions when a northbound vehicle reportedly entered his lane while navigating a curve. Granzow stated that as he navigated a corner, a vehicle traveling northbound was in their lane of travel. Granzow had to decide between a head on collision or the ditch. Granzow steered into the ditch where his truck skidded through, upright, until it struck a field driveway. After going across the field driveway, the semi turned over onto its passenger side and came to a rest in the west ditch of State Highway 139. Granzow did not report any injuries. However, the cargo load was over 100 pigs. When the trailer overturned, a large portion of the pigs in the upper deck of the trailer were ejected through the roof. The tractor and trailer both sustained disabling and possibly totaling damage. Chatfield Brothers Repair came to the scene to tow the truck as well as provide equipment to clean up deceased pigs. Several pigs had to be euthanized by law enforcement. Additional parties were requested by the driver to pick up surviving pigs. Your inbox, upgraded!
