Northeast Iowa Community College Honors Board of Trustees During School Board Recognition Month

CALMAR, Iowa — Northeast Iowa Community College is recognizing its Board of Trustees during School Board Recognition Month in May. The Iowa Association of School Boards designates May as School Board Recognition Month to recognize the role school board members play in education across the state. This year's theme is "Because of You." The NICC Board of Trustees consists of nine elected members representing the district's eight counties. Trustees serve four-year terms and oversee college policy, hire and evaluate the president and help ensure the college remains responsive to community needs. "I went to a junior college, now community college, for two years on scholarship, lived at home and completed my Associate Degree with no debt," said Sue Runyon. "I know that community colleges help many students do the same. Community colleges prepare students for the workforce or further education. NICC is important to our communities and by serving on the Board of Trustees, I hope to see our success continue." "Our Trustees are a key link between the College and the communities we serve," said Dave Dahms. "They bring forward what our constituents need and expect, and they help us share what the College is doing in return. That connection keeps us focused on what matters most in our communities and ensures we're delivering the education and training people truly need." The current board includes Jim Anderson of Decorah, Kathy Gunderson of Postville, John Finley of Elkader, Nick Fisch of Dubuque, Wendy Knight of Dubuque, Gary McAndrew of Peosta, Jason Norton of Dubuque, Sue Runyon of Fayette and Dean Sherman of Manchester.
