Seven Straight: Decorah Downs Winona in a Series of Redemptive Matches

DECORAH — The Decorah boys tennis team continues its dominance, as it hosted Winona High School on Monday, May 4, and won in convincing fashion against the Winhawks, 8-1. The win brings its tally to seven consecutive wins. For Decorah, Keaton Nalean-Carlson and Tristan Hunter, the top two singles players, along with Logan Nalean-Carlson and Jack Hammell, won their singles matches 2-0. Elliot Berland and Tyler Shaw won their matches 2-1. In doubles competition, Hunter and Berland won 2-0, K. Nalean-Carlson and Tyler Shaw won 2-1, and L. Nalean-Carlson and Jack Hammell won 2-0. K. Nalean-Carlson and Tyler Shaw's doubles match went into the third, deciding round, where they won in an exciting 10-8 match. This particular team win feels especially good and timely because earlier in the year, the team traveled to Winona to face off against the Winhawks and lost 3-4. This win shows end-of-season resolve and continued improvement. Coach Matt Anderson said, "The team continues to improve and are playing their best tennis at the right time." And by "right time" he means there are two matches left in the season before the Decorah boys host the district qualifier, which is on May 16. They'll host the match at Luther College.
