Record-Breaking Viking Cael LaFrentz Signs With UNC Greensboro

DECORAH — On Monday, May 11, Decorah High School senior Cael LaFrentz signed his national letter of intent Monday to continue his basketball career at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro during a ceremony at Decorah High School. LaFrentz leaves Decorah as one of the most accomplished players in program history. A three-year letterwinner for the Vikings, he became the all-time leading scorer in Decorah boys basketball history with 1,716 career points. He also holds school records for field goals made with 701, points per game at 24.2, free throws made with 305 and blocks with 262. During his high school career, LaFrentz earned numerous honors, including two first-team All-Northeast Iowa Conference selections and three first-team Iowa High School Basketball Coaches Association substate honors. He was also named first-team all-state by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the The Des Moines Register in 2025 and 2026. With LaFrentz leading the way, the Decorah boys basketball team won Northeast Iowa Conference titles in 2024 and 2025 and advanced to the state tournament semifinals in 2024.
