Decorah Man Sentenced to More Than 18 Years on Federal Meth Charge

DECORAH — A Decorah man was sentenced May 18 to more than 18 years in federal prison for obtaining and distributing methamphetamine in northeast Iowa. Cody Richard Reisner, 42, pleaded guilty Dec. 2, 2025, to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine after a prior conviction for a serious drug felony. According to information presented at sentencing, Reisner obtained methamphetamine from a source in Des Moines in February 2025 and distributed the drug to customers in the Decorah area. Authorities said law enforcement officers attempted to stop Reisner's vehicle Feb. 26, 2025, but he fled from officers, driving through a dormitory parking lot and grassy area on a college campus before stopping and running on foot. Officers apprehended Reisner and recovered more than 70 grams of methamphetamine from his vehicle. Court records indicate Reisner has three prior drug-trafficking convictions. Reisner was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by Chief U.S. District Judge C.J. Williams to 224 months in federal prison followed by eight years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal prison system. Reisner remained in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending transfer to a federal prison facility. The case was investigated by the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dillan Edwards. Be the first to know!
