Decorah Public Library and NEI3A Announce June Lunch and Learn Programs

DECORAH — Decorah Public Library and Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging invite community members age 60 and older to attend the monthly Lunch and Learn program at the library. The meal and presentation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, in the library's lower-level meeting room. Lunch and Learn is designed for adults age 60 and older who are interested in staying informed, active and connected. The program aims to build community and strengthen relationships among older adults while providing a nutritious meal. Each month features a guest speaker, lunch and nutrition education. A freewill donation to help cover the cost of the meal is appreciated. The program is hosted by Hallie Evans, nutrition aging specialist at Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging. In her role, Evans collaborates with community partners to help meet the needs of older adults, provides nutrition services and offers evidence-based health promotion classes. Her presentation will include nutrition education and, time permitting, light and accessible exercises. Also in June, the program will feature a presentation on fraud prevention. Sue Schulz, an RSVP Fraud Fighter presenter trained by the Iowa Insurance Division, will discuss common fraud and scam tactics currently affecting communities. Schulz has presented to civic organizations and community groups throughout the region and said she especially enjoys smaller, interactive discussions. Organizers said awareness and education remain among the most effective tools for preventing fraud and scams. To assist with meal planning, participants are asked to register by the end of the day Sunday, June 14.
