Northeast Iowa Community College Receives NJCAA Foundation Sport Opportunity Grant to Expand Esports Program

CALMAR — Northeast Iowa Community College has received a $1,250 grant from the National Junior College Athletic Association Foundation to support its esports program. The funding will be used to purchase college-owned jerseys for student-athletes, providing the team with a unified appearance during competition. Established in 2022, NICC's esports program serves as a student recruitment and engagement initiative. The 2026-27 competitive season is scheduled to begin in September and conclude during the spring semester. "The NJCAA Foundation is excited to further support the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant," said Andrew Givens, executive director of the NJCAA Foundation. "This grant is a testament to the work done by Associate Director of Grants and Contracts Andrew Boddicker and Coach Verrick Foust and will outfit our esports team members with new uniforms," said Nick Weinmeister, NICC director of athletics. "It not only provides our players with the equipment necessary for their sport, but allows them to have a sense of pride knowing that there are coaches and staff members at NICC working to create a positive experience."
