Happy Monday! Welcome to Monday High-Five -- your quick preview to what's happening around Decorah this week. Note: We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and memorable Independence Day weekend. Here are some other things to keep in mind this week: 1. Freeport Bridge Dedication - June 30 A new sign at Trout Run Park tells the story of the Freeport Bridge, a bowstring bridge built in 1878 that was once the longest bridge in the county. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the bridge was relocated to Trout Run Park in 1989 after local preservation advocates worked to save it from demolition. Tuesday's 4:30 p.m. ceremony will recognize many of those volunteers while unveiling the City-funded display created by the Decorah Historic Preservation Commission. 2. The Landing Market Celebrates 6 Years - July 3 The Landing Market is marking its sixth anniversary on Friday, July 3, with a full day of specials, giveaways and family activities. Customers can enjoy several $6 menu items at Justin's restaurant, anniversary drinks from The Buzz and enter to win one of ten $100 Landing gift cards by making purchases between June 29 and July 3. Young readers also have a chance to earn a $20 gift card by completing the market's "Now We Are 6" summer reading challenge before the end of July. 3. ArtHaus Exhibit Examines Consumer Culture - July 3 ArtHaus will open its July exhibition, Possession Obsession, with a free reception Friday evening 6 - 8 p.m. Artist O'Brien uses repetitive imagery and personal storytelling to examine the desire to own material possessions, creating artwork that reflects both attraction to and resistance against consumer culture. The exhibition will remain on display throughout July during regular gallery hours. 4. Pulpit to Pulpit 5K Returns - July 4 Runners, walkers and four-legged companions will gather Saturday morning for the annual Pulpit to Pulpit 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. The family-friendly event begins and ends at Pulpit Rock Brewing Co. and raises money this year for Northeast Iowa Community Action and Kids Lunch Club. 5. Fourth of July Celebrations Across the Region - July 4 Local communities are preparing for another busy Independence Day weekend. Parades, fireworks, community picnics, races, open houses and family activities are planned in Decorah, Festina, Spillville, Harmony and neighboring towns. Organizers say schedules are still being finalized, with additional events expected to be announced before the holiday weekend.
