Domestic Abuse, Bar Disturbance Lead to Arrest of Decorah Man

DECORAH — On June 24, 2026, at approximately 11:37 p.m., officers from the Decorah Police Department responded to the 100 block of E. Water Street, the Corner Bar, on a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found a male, identified as JACOB ERICKSON, 34, of Decorah, being restrained by a bystander. Erickson was ultimately placed under arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. According to the official criminal complaint obtained by DecorahNews.com, officers also learned Erickson had been involved in a domestic incident with his girlfriend the previous night, June 23, 2026, beginning around 6 p.m. and lasting several hours. The complaint alleges victim shared a physical altercation in which Erickson allegedly grabbed and pushed her, and took her phone and keys, preventing her from calling for help. The victim reported visible bruising and minor injuries consistent with being grabbed. The victim also stated Erickson had been drinking heavily and believed she was being unfaithful based on her Snapchat location. The incident at the Corner Bar reportedly followed continued contact between the parties, where Erickson was making the victim uncomfortable prior to being restrained by a bystander. As a result of the investigation, Erickson was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct for the June 24 incident. He was also charged in connection with the June 23 incident with domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury, first offense, and obstruction of emergency communications. He was transported to the Winneshiek County Jail, where he is being held pending his initial appearance. Arrested parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty. If found guilty on the charges listed, possible penalties in Iowa are as follows: Simple misdemeanor: Fine of $105 to $855 and up to 30 days in jail.
