Decorah Man Skirts Prison After Sentencing in Oxycodone-Laced Lasagna Case

DECORAH — A Decorah man convicted for his role in a conspiracy to lace a pan of lasagna with oxycodone and deliver it to a home with a pregnant woman has been sentenced to probation. Matthew Uthoff, 35, was sentenced July 7 in Winneshiek County District Court after pleading guilty to seven charges, including conspiracy with intent to deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, conspiracy, nonconsensual termination of pregnancy and child endangerment creating a substantial risk. The judge sentenced Uthoff to concurrent prison terms totaling up to 10 years but suspended the sentences and placed him on probation through the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Uthoff will serve five years of probation on the felony convictions and two years on the aggravated misdemeanor conviction. The court also ordered Uthoff to complete behavioral and mental health evaluations, follow any recommended treatment, comply with corrections supervision requirements and pay court costs and restitution. The case stems from a Dec. 28, 2025, incident in which investigators alleged a family-size pan of lasagna was intentionally laced with oxycodone and delivered to a Winneshiek County residence. Testing by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Laboratory later confirmed the presence of oxycodone in the food. Investigators alleged Uthoff worked with co-defendant Amber Dena Snow in the plan. Snow previously pleaded guilty to related charges and was sentenced in May to 10 years in prison.
