2026 Nordic Fest Program Now Available; Full Schedule Highlights Butter-Themed Fun, New Parade Contest, and Returning Traditions

DECORAH —The official program for Nordic Fest 2026 is now available, giving visitors a look at the full schedule of events, entertainment, demonstrations, competitions and family-friendly activities planned for July 23-25 in Decorah. Centered around this year's playful theme, "BUTTER," the 2026 festival will celebrate one of Scandinavia's beloved culinary staples through hands-on experiences, special guests, demonstrations and opportunities to enjoy butter in a variety of forms. Butter-themed activities will be featured throughout the festival. On the Vesterheim campus, guests can explore demonstrations and hands-on activities celebrating butter. On Water Street, 72nd Iowa Dairy Princess Kelsey Timp and the Winneshiek County Dairy Royalty will offer festivalgoers the chance to make butter by hand and learn more about Iowa's dairy heritage. Thanks to the Iowa Dairy Promoters, one of this year's featured guests is Iowa butter sculptor Sarah Pratt, whose butter artistry has become a well-known Iowa tradition. Pratt will lead two special, limited-capacity classes Saturday, offering participants an opportunity to learn from one of Iowa's celebrated butter artists. Registration details will be announced soon at NordicFest.com and on the Nordic Fest Facebook page. The festival's butter theme will also be reflected in its food offerings. From warm lefse topped with butter and sugar to rommegrot and homemade baked goods, butter has long been a staple ingredient in many of Nordic Fest's traditional foods. The 2026 celebration will also introduce a new Grand Parade Float Contest, inviting parade entries to compete for Best Themed Float and Crowd Favorite honors. Spectators will have the opportunity to vote online for their favorite float, adding an interactive element to one of Nordic Fest's signature events. Along with the new additions, the 2026 program includes returning festival traditions, including live music and entertainment, Norwegian folk art demonstrations, sporting events, children's activities, the Grand Parade, Scandinavian-inspired foods, shopping, museum experiences and more.
