Two Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash at Highway 52, County Road A18

WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa — Two drivers were injured Monday afternoon, Aug. 10, in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Highway 52 and County Road A18. Deputies responded to the crash at approximately 3:31 p.m. The report states 64-year-old Marsha Bergey of Harmony, Minnesota, was driving eastbound on County Road A18. Bergey stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with State Highway 52 and looked both directions prior to crossing the roadway but did not see another vehicle traveling northbound due to a blind spot. Bergey entered Highway 52 to continue eastbound, causing a collision with the other driver, whose driver could not avoid the crash. They collided with the broadside, or passenger side, of Bergey's vehicle. Bergey was sent into the northeast ditch of the intersection, where it came to a rest. The other vehicle, driven by 27-year-old Alyse Howard of Winona, Minnesota came to a rest in the middle of the intersection on Highway 52. Bergey and Howard both sustained minor injuries and were transported by WinnMed Ambulance to the emergency department at WinnMed Hospital. A passenger Howard's vehicle also complained of soreness but had no chief medical complaints and was evaluated at WinnMed. Bergey was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way under Iowa Code 321.322. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Don's Towing. Howard's vehicle was a rental vehicle rented by the passenger. The passenger advised that insurance had been purchased through Enterprise for the vehicle while it was rented. The deputy contacted Enterprise Rental, where the vehicle had been rented, but the company was unwilling to provide the insurance information at that time. Be the first to know!
