Timothy Peter, artistic director of Christmas at Luther 2026, said this year's theme, "Let Us All Rejoice and Sing!" aims to provide audiences with an evening of joy and celebration. "The 2026 theme is a reflection of Luther College's renowned spirit of community where all people are warmly welcomed," Peter said. "While we recognize the holiday season can be challenging and melancholy for some, I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to gather and experience an evening of joy." Each year, Christmas at Luther features a different theme and music performed by hundreds of Luther student musicians. This year's participating ensembles include Nordic Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Cathedral Choir, Norskkor, Aurora and the Symphony Orchestra. "The program features some of our most beloved Christmas melodies sung in a sonic 'surround sound' atmosphere while embracing the sense of community with 'all' of us—students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, family and the broader Decorah community—singing beautiful carols and hymns together which historically has been a trademark of Christmas at Luther," Peter said. Luther Dining Services will offer a holiday buffet featuring traditional Nordic cuisine in the Peace Dining Room, located on the second floor of Dahl Centennial Union, before the performances. Buffet tickets may be purchased at tickets.luther.edu or by calling the ticket office at 563-387-1357. Audiences unable to attend in person can also purchase tickets for on-demand viewing. The full-length recording includes all musical selections, narrations and audience hymns, allowing viewers to experience the performance at their convenience during the holiday season. On-demand streaming will be available from 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, through noon Monday, Jan. 4. Tickets are already on sale through the Luther Ticket Office. Thousands of people attend Christmas at Luther performances each year. Past concerts have also been broadcast on regional television and public radio stations in Iowa and Minnesota. Visit luther.edu/music/christmas-at-luther for information about local television and radio broadcasts. Many television and radio broadcasts feature shortened versions of the performance.
