Daily Market Snapshot: Nov. 3, 2026

Tuesday, 11/3/2026 a.m. Markets open higher on Election Day – Equity markets are higher in early trading on Tuesday as voters head to the polls for the midterm elections. Bond yields are also advancing, with the 10-year Treasury yield at about 4.96%. Internationally, Asian equities finished mixed overnight, while European stocks are broadly lower. WTI crude is little changed, near $96 per barrel, as markets weigh diplomatic efforts to ease Middle East supply disruptions. The U.S. dollar is modestly higher against most major currencies. Job openings exceed expectations – Job openings rose to 7.5 million in September, above both the consensus estimate and the prior month's reading of about 7.1 million. The number of people voluntarily leaving their jobs (quits) also increased to 3.4 million, a sign that workers remain relatively confident in their employment prospects, while layoffs were little changed. In our view, these readings point to a healthy labor market that should continue to support household income and consumer spending. Friday's nonfarm payrolls report will provide a more comprehensive view of labor-market conditions. Forecasts call for 65,000 jobs created in October, up from 29,000 in September, while the unemployment rate is expected to remain at 4.2%. Manufacturing orders rise more than forecast – New orders for manufactured goods increased for the third consecutive month in September, rising 1.8%, compared with expectations for a 1.1% gain. Durable-goods orders, which have increased for six of the past seven months, rose 1.9%, ahead of the forecast 1.4% increase. We believe these readings are consistent with other recent indicators of continued manufacturing strength and suggest that business demand remains resilient. This momentum should help broaden the economy's sources of growth and provide additional support for employment.
