Decorah Viking football team wins twice-delayed game against Crestwood

The Decorah Viking football team earned its 19th straight win against Cresco Crestwood on Saturday in a game that was twice postponed. The Vikings and Cadets were originally scheduled to play Friday night, but that match was washed out by heavy rains and postponed to 10:00 Saturday morning. Decorah opened the game Saturday morning by scoring all four times it had the football, but then lightning and other weather issues postponed the game further. When the game was finally completed Saturday afternoon, Decorah was a 41-14 winner over Cresco. The Vikings scored on their first possession of the game when quarterback Keenan Tyler dropped back to his own 28 yard line and hit Noah Stortz at the 50 yard line, with Stortz taking it in for a touchdown to make it 7-0. The next time Decorah got the football at its own 48 yard line, the Vikings marched down the field again, with Brody Young completing a 44-yard field goal. The Viking defense came up with an interception to give Decorah the ball on their own 46 yard line. Several plays later, Keenan Tyler ran the ball from the Cadet 29-yard line into the end zone for a 17-0 Decorah lead. It was three and out for the Cadets then, with Decorah getting the ball at the Cadet 42 yard line. Tyler handed off to Brody Young, who scored from the 42 yard line of the Cadets to make it 24-0. A lightning strike shut down the game for more than half an hour, but Decorah came out of the delay and Brody Young kicked a 33-yard field goal to make it 27-0 at halftime. Decorah scored twice more in the second half--on a 7-yard run by Brody Young and on a 4-yard run by Ben Wymer, but Crestwood also scored twice in the second half, so the final score remained a 27-point difference, 41-14, Decorah. The Vikings ended with 317 yards of total offense, with Keenan Tyler passing for 173 yards and Tyler and Brody Young combining for 121 rushing yards.
