"Curd" is the word at Culver's of Decorah on Friday

It started as an April Fool's joke. Culver's posted a fake menu item on April Fool's Day--a "CurderBurger" which featured the restaurant chain's Deluxe ButterBurger, topped with fried cheese. But a funny thing happened. Cheese-obsessed customers flooded the restaurant chain with pleas and even petitions to make that sandwich a reality. "A blend of yellow and white cheddar Cheese Curds all surrounded by crispy seasoned bread crumbs, the cheese crown offers a warm, buttery crunch and gooey cheddar in every bite," is how the company described the sandwich. On Friday at the Decorah Culver's and throughout the chain, the "CurderBurger" made an appearance--a very popular appearance. The one-day-only sandwich coincided with "National Cheese Curd Day," a holiday also created by Culver's "to celebrate the Dairyland delicacy." In Decorah, there was a "very limited supply" of CurderBurgers--just short of 200--which meant demand was high when the restaurant's door opened. Staff members wore special t-shirts and even "Curd Nerd" glasses to celebrate the day. Customers were on hand when the doors opened at 10:30 Friday morning. Said Culver's director of menu development Quinn Adkins in a statement from the company, "When we saw guests' enthusiastic reactions to the April Fools' Day post, we knew we had to make the CurderBurger a reality. This burger gives them what they want and is a perfect way to celebrate the cheesiest holiday on the calendar."
