The Perfect Edge has new owners

After more than thirty years in the custom framing business, Jeff and Anja Brown have decided to sell The Perfect Edge in downtown Decorah to DHS graduates, Spillville natives, and sisters Tonya Balik and Jerita Burreson. The Decorah Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning to celebrate the new business owners.Jeff and Anja Brown opened their framing shop in 1988 at 220 E. Water Street (now Oneota Cycles). They ran the shop for six years at this location, then moved the business to 105 W.Water St. (now GamesXP), which doubled their space and allowed them to grow the business and gallery, selling local and national art. In 2004 there was an opportunity to buy the building on 118 Washington St., where The Perfect Edge has been located ever since.New owner Tonya Balik graduated with an MFA from the University of Minnesota and has worked with the Browns since 2018. The Browns say, "Her knowledge of art, design, and photography has served her well. We are confident this will be a smooth transition and have complete faith in Tonya and Jerita's continued success and know that the Decorah community will continue to support them."Jeff and Anja say they are grateful to have had the trust and support of Luther College, Vesterheim, Story People, many local businesses, and loyal customers near and far. The Perfect Edge is truly a testament to downtown Decorah's strength and vibrancy.Balik and Burreson say there won't be any major changes under their ownership. Anja Brown will continue to work at the shop, but only on a part-time basis. The Perfect Edge will be selling exclusive Decorah artwork from local artists Angie Herrmann, Michael Floy, Erik Dutcher, Kari Yearous/Love Decorah, and Tonya Balik.
